Gallformers ID Notes

One or two large, round cone galls on the upper surface of leaves of Vitis labrusca. The galls are hairy or hairless and green turning to pale orange to red in color. They resemble those of Ampelomyia viticola but are much wider and fewer in number. They are apparently always associated with a bunching of the leaf tissue beyond the attachment point of the gall.

Observed in North Carolina in June.
