Gallformers ID Notes

Curled galls on the upper leaves of Amelanchier alnifolia. Galls begin with a tan-white color, but progress to a deep wine-red as their development progresses. They are usually supine, but some have been seen erect. Galls almost always appear in numbers. The adult midges apparently emerge from a slit in the lower leaf.
