Gallformers ID Notes

The larva of this moth seems to cause a round stem swelling directly above the petioles of Helianthus grosseserratus, accompanied by an uneven opening filled with frass. Similar swellings have been observed on other asters, including Heliopsis, Echinacea, and Eutrochium. We aren't certain whether these are caused by the same species of moth.
