Gallformers ID Notes

Small conical integral galls on the lower sides of the leaves of an unidentified Vitis species (tentatively V cinerea), surrounded by a dense ring of hairs at the base but largely hairless above, coming to a recurved, hooked point. The upper side of the leaf shows a distinct swelling suggestive of Vitisiella brevicauda, which lacks its distinct lower structure.

Dr Gagne identified larvae taken from these galls as belonging to the genus Dasineura.

Observed in Florida in May. A similar gall was observed on Vitis labrusca in Pennsylvania in August.
