Anthodiplosis eutrochii, n. sp. (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), the Flower-Bud Gallmaker of Joe Pye Weed in North America

At anthesis, in July and August, conspicuous bud galls (Figs 1–2) can be found among the flower heads. Each gall replaces an entire flower head and consists of a series of overlapping scales. In the center or among the outer bracts of each gall live one or more yellow larvae of a gall midge (Cecidomyiidae) (Figs 3–4).
