The Ilex Psylla
During a recent short trip to the sea shore, my attention was called (by my friend, Mr. Curtiss) to a gall on Ilex cassine, a shrubby tree growing in the rich hammocks along our coasts. These were found on the terminal new leaves, measured from .2 to .3 of an inch in length, and frequently destroyed the whole shape of the leaf. In the galls the young were covered with a mealy powder, very much resembling certain Coccides, and when disturbed do not app ear to secrete the watery globules noticed in the previously described species.
