Linear, raised pockets formed by pinched lamina of leaves of Quercus marilandica. On the upper side of the leaf, these are conical in cross-section along their length, sloping or nearly flat-sided up to a red peak. Below the leaf, they are similar in shape but more pubescent (comparable to the pubescence of the surrounding lamina) and lacking the red line. Observed in Texas in April.
A similar gall was observed in Massachusetts in August on Quercus velutina.
