A linear pocket gall along the midrib opening toward the upper side of a leaf of Fraxinus latifolia. Observed in California in July.
Mike Palmer reported on iNaturalist on May 3, 2025, that Ray Gagné had stated that images of midge larva obtained from a leaf fold gall on Fraxinus latifolia showed either Dasineura apicata or D. fraxinifolia. The images had been sent a few days earlier. Gagné also told Palmer that the Oregon midges were the first known west coast population, and a host record - whichever midge it is.
Galls of these species are described very briefly in Felt, E.P. 1907d. New species of Cecidomyiidae II. New York State Education Department, Albany. Felt wrote under "Fraxinus (ash)": "Rolled leaves ...... Dasyneura fraxinifolia" and "Head of deformed leaves ........ Dasyneura apicatus."
