Gallformers ID Notes

Tapered swellings on the twig ends of Frangula californica. The galls are thin-walled, and contain frass, indicating it may be induced by a sawfly, moth or beetle. Observed in California in October. A cross-sectioned gall in California revealed a moth caterpillar. In addition, a Cosmopterigid moth was reared from a very similar terminal stem gall on F. purshiana in Oregon.
