Gallformers ID Notes

A severe leaf curl causing leaves to elongate and narrow at the base, opening toward the end in a distinctive fashion reminiscent of a phonograph horn, on Populus balsamifera. Observed in Alberta in May. Aphids were found within the curled leaves likely belonging to the genus Chaitophorus. It isn't clear if these aphids are responsible for the curling or are inquilines of another leaf-curl aphid.
