According to the Plant Parasites of Europe website [click for photos] the galls are "tiny warts, less than half a mm, golden yellow orange to blood-red, usually a large number together" and can occur on several species of Asteraceae, including [in Europe] Centaurea jacea and several members of the genus Crepis.
