ERRATA: IT IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY THESE ARE CYNIPID GALLS, DESPITE WHAT IT SAYS ABOVE. QUITE POSSIBLY A MIDGE GALL INSTEAD.

Seen in Riverside County, CA in late March. Flower gall on Encelia californica. Several phyllaries [bracts] have swollen to resemble seed pods.

Several similar flower galls on E. farinosa have also tentatively been included here.
