Miscellaneous Records of Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) from the USA

Rhopalomyia sp. 3
...
OHIO
...ex Symphyotrichum prenanthoides ... (1♂).
...The specimen emerged from a collection of Symphyotrichum prenanthoides (Muhl. ex Willd.) G.L. Nesom (Asteraceae). The object of the collection was a small, conical gall at the edge of a leaf... The gall certainly belongs to a Rhopalomyia species, since similar galls are known from Solidago spp., but this is the first record of such a gall on an aster (Gagné 1989 and in litt., 27 September 2014).
