Tiny (approx. 2mm tall) conical galls clustered along the staminate flowers on Quercus vacciniifolia. Fresh galls are mostly reddish/pinkish, have yellow-green (or tan) anthers atop, and appear to protrude from bracts that are attached to catkins. The surface of galls is covered with extremely short white hairs, creating a mealy texture. The base of galls is concave and easily detachable. A single gall is thin-walled and monothalamous, containing a minuscule larva. Observed in Stanislaus National Forest, California in June.
