This species induces common leaf galls on its host plants, which occupy either the entire leaf or only part of it (Figure 15A–D). The galls are pinkish-red, rigid, and contain multiple larval chambers (10–20 on L. schultzei, fewer on L. laxa) embedded in a mass of tough tissue in the center of the fleshy leaf. Galls were found and midges were reared in late July and early August. No additional information is available on the life history of this species; however, in December no galls were found on L. laxa at the same site from which they were collected in August of the previous year; hence, the species appears to be inactive during the summer.
