The gall of this species is a brown woolly mass from one to two inches in diameter and enclosing a large number of seed-like bodies each one of which contains an insect. Always occurring on the twigs of Q alba. Iowa, MI, FL. Eastern US.

Andricus (Sub-gen. Callirhytis) clavula

The galls are club-shaped enlargements of the ends of the twigs of Quercus alba. Flies emerge in July. Common east and west.
