Gall. Length 2 to 4 mm, shining and often reddish. It is a fleshy fold near the mid vein, frequently producing curling or even recurving of the leaf. (Plate 9, figure 3.) One or more larvae inhabit the deformity

Subglobular, grayish, woolly, ranging in diameter from 0.7 to 1.5 cm. Each is composed of a number of hard, thin-walled, narrowly oval cells thickly covered with cottony matter and surrounded with small bracts, the latter also thickly clothed with white down.

Galls on Salix humilis, July 12. Same gall on Salix, September 22.

The irregular, yellowish, red-spotted galls of this species on the leaves of Salix humilis were taken at Karner September 7, 1909, adults being reared in March and April of the following year. The deep orange larvae appear to desert the galls in late fall, spinning oval, yellowish cocoons attached to any hard substance such as a leaf. The gall is very similar to that of [O. capreae](https://bladmineerders.nl/parasites/animalia/arthropoda/insecta/diptera/nematocera/cecidomyiidae/cecidomyiinae/lasiopteridi/oligotrophini/iteomyia/iteomyia-capreae/) Winn. and the adults are evidently closely allied though separable in color characteristics. 

Gall. Length 2 to 3 mm, irregular, ovoid, monothalamous, yellowish, red-spotted and usually most evident on the under surface of the leaves of Salix humilis.
