R. erigerontis is known only from the specimen reared in April, 1913, from a gall on a plant provisionally identified as Erigeron fragilis.

This unique species has been known only from types reared in June, 1884, from the fruit of Juniperus californica. Several specimens were reared from Gavilan, Riverside County, in May, 1939 (P. H. Timberlake).

I. citrulli, an Arizona species that is not yet known from California, is regarded as an important localized pest of watermelon. The larvae infest the tips of the vines causing them to curl and die.

The type series was raised from distorted fruit of Toyon, Photina arbutifolia. Adults emerge in April and May.
