Occasionally one larva lives in the stem pith without causing an enlargement. This species has also been reared from the soft tissue of galls of *Asphondylia rudbeckiaeconspicua*. More than one generation per year may occur because an adult was reared from galls in September. Host: *R. laciniata*.

The midge was reared from subglobular galls on the underside of Aspen leaves, Populus tremuloides, collected by Miss Cora H. Clarke at Magnolia, Mass. It is by no means certain that in this species we have the gall maker.

Lasioptera centerensis n. sp.
This name is proposed for a yellowish orange larva inhabiting a double celled gall at the base of the stem of *Impatiens aurea* taken at Karner, N. Y., September 6, 1906.

Gall. The gall is soft, green, one-half of an inch long, one-third of an inch in diameter, and is composed of two cells.

This larva is easily distinguished from that of *L. impatientifolia* by the tridentate breastbone.
