Galls are usually found widely dispersed in patches of R. blanda or R. woodsii with one-three galls per plant (Fig. 2). Larval chambers are elongate and dispersed about the gall, but often are clustered near the centre (Fig. 3). Galls on both wild (Fig. 2) and domestic roses (Fig. 4) are spherical or irregularly rounded and clothed with stout, sharp spines, although sometimes the surface is smooth. Immature galls are yellowish-green and soft whereas mature galls are reddish-brown and so firm they are difficult to cut open. 

Diplolepis rosaefolii

Mature galls are lenticular (Fig. 5), 2.0-2.5 mm thick and 3.0-5.5 mm in diameter, appearing as circular swellings protruding from both the adaxial and abaxial surface of leaflets. Galls are single chambered and occur either scattered over the surface of leaflets, or are so densely packed and coalesced that entire leaves are obscured.

Diplolepis polita

Diplolepis polita is also a common galler on wild roses from western Canada where it is found along the Pacific coast on R. nutkana to central Quebec on R. acicularis. Mature galls are spherical, spinulose, single chambered and appear in clusters on the adaxial surface of leaflets (Fig. 6). Galls are frequently so dense that their weight causes leaves to droop. Galls are found on numerous varieties of R. rugosa (Shorthouse 1994).

Diplolepis radicum

Although present in most regions, its galls are frequently overlooked because they form below the surface of the ground on the tips of shoots arising from rhizomes (Shorthouse 1988). Galls are variable in size and shape, but most are irregularly rounded and potato-shaped with numerous bulges (Fig. 7). The surface is smooth and tan to reddish brown throughout all stages of development.

The surface is covered with thick tangles of yellowish green, mossy-like, hairy protuberances (Fig. 9) and when the galls become large and encircle the stem, all signs of the host leaf disappear. Single and multichambered galls are soft and succulent when immature, but become woody and  firm when mature

Diplolepis centifoliae

Galls are small, spherical with a smooth surface, single chambered and scattered over the surface
of leaflets. They are yellowish green when immature then turn either dark green to
purplish red when mature and finally brown once dry. They are found on both the adaxial
and abaxial surfaces of leaflets and are easily dislodged because the point of attachment is
narrow.

Diplolepis mayri

Galls are globular shaped and multichambered with numerous protuberances and average 2.0 cm in diameter. Some smaller, singlechambered galls are spherical and form on the surface of leaflets while larger, heavier galls cause the host leaf to droop. Immature to maturing galls are dark
green and when they dry at the end of the season they are tan-gray. The surface of mature
galls are either smooth or clothed with fine prickles.
