Palmer (1987) reported this fly to be common on *B. halimifolia* in southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana where it forms stem galls. Wasbauer (1972) lists *B. halimifolia* in reference to an unpublished host list of Foote. Various specimens examined here were reared from flowers and stems of *B. halimifolia* and others were recorded from only the stems of *B. glomeruliflora*.

A single rearing record was found in material examined, although numerous specimens bore labels that in some way associated them with *Baccharis*. Four light morphs (three males, one female) emerged on 19 May 1972 from *B. pilularis* collected at Walnut Creek (Contra Costa County), Calif. The plants were in a stage of vegetative growth, but the exact structure from which the flies emerged is unknown (J. A. Powell, personal communication). However, these data, when compared with similar data for the three other seasonally varying species, suggests that the specimens were reared from stems. This species also has been reared from *B. pilularis consanguinea* and otherwise associated with *B. emoryi* A. Gray and unidentified *Baccharis* species (Foote & Blanc 1963).

Adults of *T. palmeri* have been reared from female flowers and terminal stem galls of *B. neglecta* from southcentral and southeastern Texas (Palmer [1987] and specimens examined). Three specimens collected on 25 April 1984 at Victoria, Tex., were reared from *B. halimifolia*.

[*T. arizonensis* has been reared from *B. sarothroides* in Tucson, AZ, and Otay, CA. These rearing records come from terminal galls, stem tip mines, and flower heads. Swelling from stem-feeding larvae only occurred during pupation.]

[*Tephritis baccharis* was described in Coquillett, 1894, as being from a "irregular oval gall... on tender twigs of *Baccharis viminea*". *T. baccharis* has been reared from San Diego County and Los Angeles County.]
