Galls are variable in size, 5–15 mm in diameter, usually green, occasionally purple. Adults emerge from the galls in summer...Hosts: H. annuus, H. divaricatus, H. grosseserratus, H. heterophyllus, H. mollis, H. neglectus, H. niveus, H. occidentalis, H. petiolaris, H. praecox, H. strumosus, H. tuberosus.

We found A. helianthiglobulus on 10 Helianthus species and cultivars. Additional records previously unpublished are H. grosseserratus and H. tuberosus, Webster Groves, MO, and H. decapetalus, Toronto, Ontario....Larvae of helianthiglobulus induce leaf, seed, and stem galls, but also occur in apparently unmodified inflorescences.

The gall of this species is found on the giant sunflower (Helianthus giganteus) and sawtoothed sunflower (Helianthus grosse-serratus) in August and September. The pupa, gall and adult were briefly described by Osten Sacken and again in detail by Martin. The adults emerge in September and October.
