Plant Galls of the Western United States

This mite induces swollen, pit galls with a central depression (erineum) on the thin. needle-like leaves of California sagebrush. These round to irregularly shaped galls occur singly or in clusters in the middle of leaflets, often distorting and bending them. Individual galls measure 2 mm in diameter. The erineum is usually lined with brown hairs.
