Gallformers ID Notes

A hairy, green, slightly shriveled, oblong-globular gall among the emerging leaves of Quercus phellos, apparently deforming an entire leaf. The wall of the gall is thick, concealing a larval cell of similar ovate shape. Observed in North Carolina in April. This gall resembles Weld's oblong bud gall on Quercus falcata and Amphibolips ellipsoidalis in cross section but differs in placement on the host and exterior appearance.
