Gallformers ID Notes

Small, fuzzy, yellow spangles with thick, woody walls on veins on the underside of Quercus ilicifolia leaves. Never reared but each containing a single cynipid larva. Known from five observations in State College Pennsylvania on July 30, 2020: 1 (including cross section) (2) (3) (4) (5).

A similar gall has been observed on an undetermined red oak in Louisiana in July. Another has been observed on Quercus imbricaria in Pennsylvania in August and on Quercus falcata in Arkansas in August.
