Gallformers ID Notes

Acorn Cup Gall Wasp

This cynipid wasp induces bulging, round galls on the cups of acorns on Quercus kelloggii.

Photographs and drawings of this undescribed gall are currently available in both the 2006 and 2021 versions of Ronald Russo's field guides, however additional verifiable images are not currently available.

Russo mentions that this gall has only been observed on California black oak (Quercus kelloggii) in Mount Shasta, CA, however may be possible on other oaks within this group.

Quercus agrifolia added tentatively as a host based on this unconfirmed observation.
