Neolasioptera vitinea

Vitis
Woody, elongate-tapered swelling of tendrils, petioles, or midveins

Swellings are 5-15 mm long, and several may occur in tandem. Larvae live along the pith. One generation occurs per year, the adults emerging from the galls in spring.

Range: New England to Virginia, west to MO

Schizomyia petiolicola Felt was reportedly reared from a tapered stem swelling attributable to Neolasioptera vitinea but I have never seen Schizomyia larvae in these galls.
