Gallformers ID Notes

One to several small, thin-walled integral cells flush with the upper side of the midrib of Quercus virginiana (and likely other live oaks), sometimes causing slight deviations in the direction of the midrib. Barely visible from the lower side of the leaf. These may be the sexual generation galls of Callirhytis quercusbatatoides or Bassettia pallida or something else. Observed with recent exit holes in Texas in June.

Male and female cynipini wasps were reared in May from galls matching this description by James Zimmerman.
