Gallformers ID Notes

Fleshy, hairless, globular (often flattened) galls protruding from axillary bud scales, with sticky secretion attracting ants. They are glossy white and mottled at top with a hint of green and/or red when fresh, and appear to darken into purple/brown when aged. A monothalamous cell containing a larva per gall was found upon dissection by Greg Froelich. Observed on Quercs berberidifolia, john-tuckeri and other white oak hybrids in Ventura County, CA in May-September.
