Location: upper leaf, lower leaf, on leaf veins, between leaf veins
Form:
Cells: monothalamous
Possible Range:
The gall's range is computed from the range of all hosts that the gall occurs on. In some cases we have evidence that the gall does not occur across the full range of the hosts and we will remove these places from the range. For undescribed species we will show the expected range based on hosts plus where the galls have been observed.

Heliozela sp. near aesella Chambers
Heliozela sp. near aesella Chambers is a gall-forming moth. In the spring, irregular swellings are produced along the sides of young shoots, leaf petioles, and flower stems of muscadine grapes. The tiny Heliozela caterpillars feed within the galls, producing channels which weaken plant structures and contribute to breakage. Mature larvae drop form the vine in tubes constructed about themselves and pupate in soil or debris. No leaf galls of H aesella Chambers, a close relative, were found on muscadine grapes.
