The molecular results placed one additional species, Callirhytis attractans (Kinsey 1922), within the same clade as species from Kokkocynips with 100% posterior probability support (Fig. 1). This is an interesting placement, as this species is known only from its sexual form, unlike other species in the genus. Accordingly, we transfer this species to Kokkocynips although we have not yet been able to study the type material. In the near future we hope to have the opportunity to re-describe this species.

Callirhytis uvellae Weld was synonymized with Dryocosmus attractans (Kinsey) by Dailey (1969) but Burks (1979) did not mention this synonymy, which we consider to be a mistake. The galls (Fig. 11G) are unilocular, about 2 mm in diameter and develop gregariously in spring on buds (Dailey 1969). The host oaks are of all the section Lobatae present in California, Q. agrifolia, Q. kelloggii and Q. wislizeni.

Callirhytis uvellae, new species

Gall (pl. 1, fig. 4). — Two-chambered, fleshy, reddish, 2.0 mm. in diameter, from bud on side of twigs in spring, single or usually in small clusters. The larva occupies the basal cavity. After the adults emerge the walls of the upper shrivel.

Host. — Quercus wislizenii.

Habitat. — The type series was reared from galls collected at Lakeport and Ukiah, Calif., on May 10 and 12, 1922, when the galls contained pupae. Adults issued a few days later and were found dead in the box on May 26. Galls were seen at Upper Lake and at Santa Rosa, Calif. Similar galls were seen on Q. agrifolia at Santa Anita, Santa Barbara, Newhall, Fillmore, and Ojai, Calif.

Andricus attractans, new species

Galls (Pl. XXIV, Fig. 2). —Sticky cells protruding from buds. Each cell is monothalamous, about 2x3 mm., oval, but with rather flattened ends; only microscopically roughened, marbled red to dark green when fresh, drying brown; thin-walled, hollow. Under the bud scales, but often largely protruding; covered with a sticky secretion when fresh; often several in a bud; on Quercus wislizeni

Range: —California: Redding.

These galls are distinct in appearance from other Pacific Coast bud galls, but probably reach maturity in such a short time that they will need to be discovered at just the opportune season [Kinsey's galls were collected in Redding on April 2]. The very sticky secretion on the surface proves attractive to ants, and likely attracts wasps and bees. I am surprised to find all of the thirteen adults bred are males, and am at a loss to explain the situation. The insect shows relations to some species of Neuroterus, but does not belong to the typical group of that genus.
